Hell Gate Bridge, New York City, NY
Description - at the time of the picture with a ferry passing under, the Bridge was the longest steel arch bridge in the world (until the Bayonne Bridge was opened in 1932). It joined Randalls and Wards Islands ( now joined into one island) to New York City, crossing the East River. Length is 1000 feet, height 200 feet, weight 80,000 tons, the concrete towers are 200 feet high. It had cost 14 million USd in 1916, when it was opened to railway traffic.
