Postcards of Carmel, California
Carmel-by-the-Sea or Carmel, is a small town in the Monterey County on the Pacific coast about 330 miles north of Los Angeles and 120 miles south of San Francisco; rich of history and today an important cultural center, in 1821 it was Mexican territory and became part of the United States in 1848 after the Mexican-American War.
Place: Carmel - also known as the San Carlos Borromeo de Rio Carmelo
Mission Carmel was the second of the 9 California Missions founded by father Junipero Serra. The vintage photo shows part of the roof of the mission and left side in ruin (possibly caused by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake?).
